This is a very frequent question that gets asked a lot by our customers. The scenario is like this, “I tried to unlock my front door but the key broke off in the lock. Now I have half of the key still on my key ring and the other half still in the lock. What do I do?” The answer to that is pretty simple. You need to call a Locksmith.
Everyone has several types of keys on their key ring, every one of them with a special purpose for something. Many of us even have keys that are seriously old. Maybe you have lived in the same house for several years and never changed your locks. This will result in your keys becoming less durable as they were when they were first purchased. The problem with trying to do it yourself is that if for some reason you try to take the lock apart and now you can’t get it back together, you will have to leave your home, with no lock on your door, to purchase another one. It would be the same scenario if you were to try to do it yourself and end up breaking the lock, then you would have to spend more money to buy a brand new lock.

Obviously, the first questions is, Now what do I do? Should I call the dealership where I purchased my car from or should I call a Locksmith?

Once that information is provided, the Locksmith will be able to create a new key based upon the code that is given to them. However, they may ask you all of the information before they get there so they can be prepared upon arrival to your location.
